ALA: American Library Association was founded on October 6, 1876 during the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. ALA was created to provide leadership for the development, promotion, and improvement of library and information services and the profession of librarianship in order to enhance learning and ensure access to information for all. CFRE International: The Certified Fund Raising Executive Credential was first awarded in 1981. In June 2013, the CFRE became the first globally recognized credential for fundraising professionals. Since 2001, CFRE International has existed as an independent nonprofit organization. We are dedicated to setting standards in philanthropy through a valid and reliable certification process for philanthropic fundraising professionals.

Giving Institute: Leading Consultants to Non-Profits. Formerly called the American Association of Fundraising Counsel (AAFRC), it was founded in 1935 to promote professional and ethical standards of practice and to influence the creation of laws governing philanthropy. In 2005, the name was changed to the Giving Institute.
