The Root of Philanthropy

The word philanthropy is derived from the Greek root words “philos,” meaning love, and “anthropos,” meaning man or humanity. At its most basic level, Philanthropy celebrates a love of humanity. Giving USA recently released their annual report on the state of charitable giving, which revealed that giving reached $557.16 billion in 2023. When adjusted for inflation, the numbers decreased from last year. However, The Hodge Group celebrates the philanthropic nature of Americans. Humanity’s love and desire to make one’s community a better place continues to play an important role, even during times of inflation and uncertainty.

Our current work covers everything from a men’s shelter feasibility study to managing an art program’s capital campaign to developing a case statement for an organization serving vulnerable children.

We find that every day working in philanthropy is a privilege, and we want to use this opportunity to remind ourselves that philanthropic work is literally rooted in love. We’re proud of what we do.
